Fire resistance testing of building materials

Fire resistance tests are performed in test chambers compliant with the EN standards (vertical chamber (3 x 3) m, vertical chamber (5 x 5) m, two horizontal chambers (3 x 4) m). Tests of smoke control properties are also provided (chamber (3 x 3) m). Thus, Fires can perform full extent of fire resistance testing of vertical and horizontal constructions, load-bearing and non-bearing elements, service installations, protection of load-bearing building constructions and smoke and heat exhaust management devices according to recent state of published and working versions of European standards and other selected standards as follows: (DIN 4102-12 – integrity tests of electrical cables systems, BS 476-20, BS 476-21 – fire resistance verification steel members protected by fire protection in the extent specified in EN 13381-4 and EN 13381-8, BS 476-22 – verification of fire resistance of non-load-bearing construction elements in the extent given by EN 1364-1 and BS 476-24 – fire resistance verification of ventilation ducts in the extent of EN 1366-1) Up-to-date extended application standards (EXAP) and FSG (notified persons’ group) documents are both referred to in the testing process as well as EGOLF supplementary recommendations and best practise documents to extend the applicable product variants range according to the rules of direct and extended application.

Aerodynamic free area testing of natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators (NSHEV)

Evaluation of aerodynamic free area is performed based on product or model testing in wind tunnel. Models can be produced based on drawings supplied by the producer on a per request basis.

Reaction to fire testing for all Euroclasse (A1 – F)

Euroclass tests are performed according to EN 13501-1. Tests of external fire exposure of roofs are carried out in accordance with EN 13501-5 (method t1 and t4)

Physical and mechanical properties testing

Tests of physical properties are done in a test chamber (4 x 3) m which enables rotation by 360°. Mechanical tests of doors required for verification of constancy of parameters (cyclic opening tests, soft and hard body impact tests, operating forces tests), physical tests of doors (air permeability, water resistance, wind resistance) and tests of burglar resistance are available. Mechanical tests of doors are performed in a separate test frame or with a built-in specimen in a supporting construction intended for fire resistance testing.

Mechanical tests of natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators (NSHEVs) include wind load tests (WL), snow load test (SL), cyclic opening and closing test (Re) and low temperature test (T). For plastic roof-lights physical and mechanical tests are offered as well.

Classifications

Fires s.r.o. issues classification reports for products with a defined direct (DIAP) or extended (EXAP) application, suitable to be used for CE mark by the manufacturer. Expert judgement reports with classification, suitable for national verification of constancy of parameters according to the national regulations extend our services.

Certification of constancy of performance of construction products

Certification of constancy of performance of construction products with the Act declared by the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 133/2013 Coll. and Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council

Verification of constancy of performance with validity in Slovak republic as well as with validity in European Union (CE marking) belongs to our most important services. Those services include certification of roof windows, roof-light, doors and gates, windows, suspended ceiling systems, fire protection products for construction elements e.g. painting systems, renderings and boards, fire dampers, ventilation ducts with fire resistance, intumescent seals of cables or pipes penetrations in walls and floors, linear joints sealing, ventilation systems for smoke and heat exhaust or their components, smoke barriers, smoke dampers, natural or powered smoke and heat exhaust ventilators.

Voluntary certification valid for Dubai UAE (United Arab Emirates)

Certification body can offer voluntary certification valid in Dubai UAE. Voluntary certification is a procedure of performance assessment and factory production control, following the clients’ requests, while a technical specification or a combination thereof can be used. In this case, however, procedure does not follow certification procedure according Act declared by the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 133/2013 Coll. nor Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

National Technical assessment body/ EU Technical assessment body (TAB)

Fires is an authorised body of Slovak technical assessments and notified body for European technical assessments (ETA) for products exempt from or outside any existing legislation, either harmonised EN standards.

Technical assessment is a documented evaluation of essential parameters of a construction product (these parameters being expressed in numeral form in levels, by threshold values in classes or by their description) with respect to its influence on at least one basic requirement of buildings.

Slovak technical assessment is issued in case there is no hEN, ETA or other specified standard with regards to the product which is intended to be released on a domestic market. Slovak technical assessment is issued in the national language. European technical assessment (ETA) is in accordance with respective European assessment document (EAD).
